America, or the ‘Land of the Free’ makes for an exciting and interesting vacation destination, because there’s simply so much to see and do. This massive country has everything from mountains to beaches, some of the world’s most famous cities, gorgeous national parks and monuments that are known across the globe. But if you want to make your trip that bit more special, here are a few things to consider.
Go on a road trip
America is the perfect place to go on road trips, as it’s so vast and there’s so much to see and do. Each state is like a separate destination within itself, and there are lots of set routes for all kinds of time frames depending on how long your trip is, and what you want to see. There are many road trip companies out there you can book through if you want to. These have the benefit of offering car rental, plus they have set routes so you know exactly where you’re going. This could be a good option if you prefer something a bit more structured, or are new to this kind of adventure and want a little guidance. Otherwise, do some research and plan your route, bearing in mind the sights and tourist destinations you plan on seeing along the way. If you drive an RV you have a vehicle and accommodation in one. That way you can park in any safe, legal location to sleep, or utilise campsites along the way.
Backpacking is a humble yet brilliant way to explore a destination. You get to see beyond the glitz and glamour of tourism, instead chatting to the locals and discovering their way of life. Visiting the places they visit, and eating what they eat. It’s all done on a budget and goes to show that you don’t need fancy hotels, resorts and restaurants to have a good time while you’re away. The national and state parks across the country make great places to backpack in, as well as the less touristy states such as Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas if you want to discover hidden gems off the beaten track.
Explore the waters
North America is surrounded by Arctic ocean on the north, Atlantic Ocean to the east, pacific ocean to its south and west, and the Caribbean Sea to its south east side. This means there are lots of incredible opportunities to explore the waters including going boating and wildlife watching. From yacht rental Miami to whale watching excursions in Alaska, there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re new to a destination or it’s a favourite that you love to visit, exploring the waters gives you the chance to experience the place in a completely different way.
See the skies
There are places in the US that are so epic, they’re simply best appreciated from above. There are helicopter rides over locations such as New York City, the Las Vegas Strip and the Grand Canyon. Alternatively you could go on a hot air balloon ride, some of the best places to do this are the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, Napa Valley in California and Sedona in Arizona. If you’re looking for an interesting, exciting addition to your trip then be sure to consider this.
