Taking A History Tour Of Philadelphia
Philadelphia is a very big city; indeed, it’s the largest in Pennsylvania! And because of the sheer size of this metropolis, there’s been quite a few historical moments that have happened on its soil. These sites are huge tourism draws year by year, and finally, that particular wanderlust bug has gotten around to you!
So you want to visit Philadelphia, and you want to get to know all the ins and outs of the city and what made it what it is today. Thankfully, it has a lot to offer you that you won’t find anywhere else – even just trying a Philly Cheese Steak from its own home turf is going to taste a lot different, and a lot richer, than any cheese steaks you’ve had in the past!
You won’t get bored whilst you’re here, and you’re never going to regret taking a trip around the area. So let’s get into some of the best historical spots you’ll want to see on your tour; if you’ve got limited time to go around, you’re going to want to know the priorities.

Visit the Liberty Bell
This is one of the biggest draws for anyone looking to visit Philadelphia, and the Liberty Bell is instantly recognizable thanks to its iconic crack. Despite no one knowing quite how this crack formed in the bell’s base, there’s still a wealth of knowledge to be discovered by visiting this monument.
Located in the Independence National Park, you can be sure to find a lot of other monuments along your journey to see the bell, and the journey is half the wonder of going to visit it! Be sure to stop off at the visitor center, and then go on to Independence Hall and the Benjamin Franklin museum. You can even find itineraries to follow at the park website, if you’re crazy about getting down to the fine details whilst in this city, so click here for those.
Hit the Art Museums
There’s a lot of museums on offer in the center of Philadelphia, but there’s quite a few fine art and modern art galleries to check out as well. Crank these options right up to the top of your itinerary – you won’t regret it!
There’s the Philadelphia Museum of Art, famous for its classic pieces and iconic entrance look (you can even see it in the distance in the photo above!). It’s also open quite late, so feel free to not get around to this until the evening. There’s also the Institute of Contemporary Art, which is quite popular for photographers and anyone with an interest in the modern wave of art styles. Or maybe you could go to the Woodmere Art Museum, which has over 8000 local works of art housed inside it.
And whilst you’re there, be sure to take a look around the neighborhood. Seeing as it can be impossible to fit an entire tour of the city into the week you’ve got to visit, you could always check out the University City apartments for rent. If you’re someone who likes to take their time on vacation, think about this: renting out a holiday home is a very popular option these days, as you’ll be able to come and go when you please, and have all the amenities at your fingertips, at a reduced cost compared to a hotel.
Take a Stroll Along the River Bank
Philadelphia is bordered by the Delaware River, and there’s quite a few locations along it you’ll want to hit whilst on your visit. You can have a wonderful riverside walk, as well as take plenty of selfies with famous attractions in the background of the pics!
Start off with Penn’s Landing, where William Penn recieved the royal charter of Pennsylvania from King Charles II of England – wouldn’t that be a real historical trip to go down? Then head down the Race Street Pier, where views of the Benjamin Franklin bridge are completely unparalleled. Take a weight off with a picnic, or just throw a blanket down on the grass and lie down to watch the sky above you.
So, How Do You Feel About a Trip to Philly?
If you’re someone who wants to head out to Philadelphia on your next travel trip away, make sure you hit sites like these on your way. Focusing on the history of the city is one of the best ways to get to know it, and it’s a very enriching vacation to have – there’s so much to see!
