I was shocked to learn the fact 8 years old or older kids are allowed to drive either scooter or motorcycle. Scooter mostly although. However, my wonderful friend, Wahyu Bali Deaf Guide, explained that they’re usually allowed to ride somewhere out of the city or town where busy roads are at. So they usually drive somewhere on the street with few vehicles or bikers.
Wahyu nicely emphasized the importance of getting approved to drive is based on your height and how long your legs are. Specifically, your foot has to be on the ground, then you can drive. Simple as that.
What terrifies me the most was witnessing countless kids driving without helmets. They all are young with so much potentials in their future. I’d be very sad to hear if anything happens to them. We all need to encourage them to wear helmets or anything else as long as it protects them from getting hurt.
That’s one of things I really love about traveling in South East Asia =)
