Global Styles to Inspire Your Home

Some of the most beautiful homes are a kaleidoscope of international influences. Interior trends in 2025 vary from classic brown furniture to elaborate drapery. Keep your eyes peeled for bargains, especially English and American antiques, but be prepared to look further afield. Inspiration knows no geographical bounds — as proven by the roster of globally-inspired styles.

These are some possible international styles to inspire your home. Who doesn’t love a cultured aesthetic?

Scandinavian (Nordic – Sweden, Norway, Denmark)

Scandi designs seem to be rising in a bubble that won’t pop. There was the emergence of Scandi-Scot in 2024, and those adaptations of Scandinavian styles don’t seem to be pausing any time soon. Think minimalism, light-coloured woods, clean lines, and utter functionality. Scandi styles focus on natural light and a calming, clutter-free space that balances style with practicality. Don’t forget hygge, either: the much-loved phrase coined for cosiness. This international style has seriously sparked a movement.

Japanese Zen (Japan)

It’s impossible to resist the concept of a “zen” home. When faced with the chaos of work and the outside world, your home should ultimately be a solace. And that’s why Japanese interiors are so popular as a global design influence. The style incorporates natural materials like paper, bamboo, and wood. You’ll also spot special characteristics, like low furniture, neutral tones, and sliding doors to create harmonic entrances between spaces. The whole concept hinges on simplicity and mindfulness — ideal for those seeking serene homes.

Moroccan (North Africa)

The Moroccan colour palette is unlike any other. The bold patterns and rich colours culminate in unmistakably beautiful designs, with distinct features like arched doorways, mosaic tiles, and lantern lighting. As cliche as the phrase is, the North African influence creates an exotic effect — bursting with warmth and associations of heat. Talk about injecting personality.

French Country (Rural France)

If Moroccan designs are bursting, French country interiors are crumbling. This design has a wistful element, with distressed wooden furniture and a rustic charm. In terms of furnishings, the style leans on specific styles, including elaborate toile fabrics (which signify much more than a pastoral print). Think vintage accents with plenty of neutrals and pastels. It’s great for creating a lived-in and timeless aesthetic — like a countryside cottage raised multiple generations and always has its door slightly ajar.

Bohemian (Global/Eclectic)

Who said you had to pick one? Layered textures and eclectic combinations of colours and prints are an artistic way to express and reflect a love for travel and multiple cultures. The bohemian style screams “wanderlust.” If you’d rather pick a global influence than a singular country, it’s the perfect solution.

There is something special about an internationally-inspired home. Whatever influence you’re drawn to, it puts a unique and character-forward stamp on your interior.
