Luwak coffee is one of the most expensive coffees in the world and it comes from animal shit.
Is it April Fools’ day? I can assure you this is the real deal.
This animal is called Luwak (Asian Palm Civet) that digested coffee cherries eaten and defeacted. Before I start explaining why it is so expensive, Kopi is the Indonesian word for coffee. Luwak is a local name of the Asian palm civet in Sumatra.
The reason why it is the most expensive coffee is produced: from beans fallen from a coffee tree to a cup of Kopi Luwak coffee.
Although kopi luwak is a form of processing rather than a variety of coffee, it has been called one of the most expensive coffees in the world with retail prices reaching €550 / US$700 per kilogram,[9] close to the €850 / US$1,100 price of Black Ivory coffee.
Some critics claim more generally that kopi luwak is simply bad coffee, purchased for novelty rather than taste. For me, it was just a regular black coffee. I can confirm it tastes bitter and strong enough for me to dislike drinking more.
Father and I have at least completed one of many bucket-list all over the world! Grandfather declined flatly, that saddened me.
